Drywall screws have more threads than standard screws, preventing them from slipping away from the drywall. They are made from metal and require a screwdriver to insert into the wall. Additionally, they are frequently employed in conjunction with plastic anchors to help spread the weight of the object evenly.
Drywall screws have been classified by their lengths and pitches. There are two kinds of lengths for drywall screws, such as W-type and S-type. Screws of the S type are made to attach drywall to metal. The sharp point makes penetration of the surface much easier. W-type screws, on the other hand, are both longer and less slender. They are specifically designed to install the drywall over wood. While drywall panels vary in their thicknesses, it's generally enough to drive screws of the W type into the wood for at least 0.63 inches (1.6 centimeters) and for screws with S-types to penetrate a stud of metal to the depth of 0.38 inches (0.9 centimeters). If you're screwing through several layers, be sure that your screw's length is sufficient to go at a minimum of 0.5 inches (1.3 centimeters) into the layer beneath.
The screw's pitch is classified as fine or coarse. The coarser the threaded screw is, the more tightly it is. Furthermore, since it is made up of smaller threads, it can be screwed into place quicker. In contrast, while finely threaded screws require more time to install, they come with sharper points, which make it simpler to put the screw into the first position. You should use coarse threaded drywall screws for connecting the drywall to studs made of softwood, while finely threaded screws for drywall are intended to be used when connecting the drywall to metal studs.
Additionally, there are special drywall screws specifically designed to serve a specific purpose. For instance, when you install the drywall on the studs of heavy metal, it is recommended to use self-drilling screws for drywall, eliminating the requirement to drill holes ahead of time. Furthermore, you can use drywall that has been coated with screws that guard against corrosion.
