The more spaced your studs are, the more screws you'll need to join drywall panels; you'll still be able to figure an average of 1 screw for each sq ft of drywall. Imagine your ceiling is 18 ft x 18 ft (5.47 meters by 5.47 meters) which is three square meters (30.10 sq meters). Because one pound (0.45 kg) of screw has around 320 screws, it's possible to make do with 1 pound of screws to complete this task.
If you're working with drywall, things get slightly more complex because you have to consider doors and windows. While you may not be able to subtract windows and doors from the total number of drywall panels that you purchase, however, there is a way to reduce the amount of screws that will be located in the space which is used by windows and doors. To figure out the area that you'll have to work in, determine the space's height and the size of the wall. Divide the height by the size of the wall and add the total area of each wall.
If you live in a space with walls that measure 8.4 feet (2.4 meters) tall. Two walls are 14 feet (4.2 meters) long. The remaining two are 12 ft (3.6 meters) long. The total area of the wall is 8 feet (2.4 meters) by 14 feet (4.2 meters) which is eleven square meters (10.4 sq meters), and the size of the two walls is eight feet (2.4 meters) by 12 feet (4.2 meters) equivalent to 96 square feet (8.9 square meters). The ceiling measures twelve feet (3.6 meters) by 14 feet (4.2 meters), which is the size of 168 square feet (15.6 sq meters). The total area of the space totals 584 square feet (54.3 square meters) that is the square footage of 96 square feet (8.9 square meters) multiplied by two, plus 112 square feet (10.4 square meters) multiplied by two, and one hundred and 168 square feet (15.6 square meters).
If you're using 1/5/8-inch (4.1 centimeters) screws and you'll have about 150 screws in pounds, which means you'll have 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms) box of screws to take charge of the space and a few more. In actuality, a 5-pound (2.3 kg) container of screws should be sufficient for any room in the event of a large room. If you're not putting drywall on the ceiling, you'll require less screws. If you choose to build partitions, you'll require more screws.
